About Us – Frequently Asked Questions
What does Good Shepherd believe?
Good Shepherd is a member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America and is a Lutheran church.
Lutherans are Christians who accept the teachings of Martin Luther (1483 – 1546). Luther was a German theologian who realized that there were significant differences between what he read in the Bible and the practices of the Roman Catholic church at that time. On October 31, 1517, he posted a challenge on the door of Wittenberg University, titled “95 Theses” (to debate 95 theological issues). His hope was that the church would reform its practice and preaching to be more consistent with the Word of God as contained in the Bible.
Today, nearly five centuries later, Lutherans still celebrate the Reformation on October 31 and still hold to the basic principles of Luther’s theological teachings:
- We are saved by the grace of God alone — not by anything we do;
- Our salvation is through faith alone — we only need to trust God made known in Christ who promises us forgiveness, life and salvation; and
- The Bible is the norm for faith and life — the true standard by which teachings and doctrines are to be judged.

How many services do you have?
During the year we have two Sunday services: 9:00 AM and 10:30 AM.
(During the summer we have one 9:30 AM service on Sunday)
What types of worship do you offer?
Our church uses a rotation of four worship styles. The first is a traditional worship service which includes liturgy, responsive readings, and traditional hymns led by the organ. The second is a contemporary service which includes a contemporary band playing contemporary music with guitar, bass, piano, and drums. The third service is a Service of the Word which is a worship setting found within the Evangelical Lutheran Worship. The fourth service is a worship led by the Spirit Singers, our contemporary choir. We rotate these styles weekly, so if you attend services every week for a month, you will experience each unique setting.
